  Beginning Spring 2010, the Assessment Alliance will be responsible for assessing student performance in written communication skills at the project level.  The Alliance will review student writing samples collected during Fall 2009, Fall 2010, Spring 2011, and Spring 2012.  The group’s membership is described as follows:
  • The group includes a minimum of 10 members; the majority of the members are faculty.
  • The members come from a variety of disciplines.
  • Members possess an above average knowledge of assessment in higher education.
  • Members fully understand how to use the CLAQWA.
  • Each member serves a two-year term.  Terms are staggered for continuity.
  • The college president appoints new members.
  • Members receive compensation for fulfilling their duties on the Alliance.

The group is responsible for:
  • Reviewing a valid sampling of authentic student work collected from all programs implementing communication skills  Scoring student writing using the CLAQWA
  • Reaching consensus on scoring student writing during face-to-face sessions
  • Tabulating final results and reporting them and any recommendations for improvement to the college
