Professional Development Interview
Friday, February 23, 2007
9:00 – 11:20 am

Interview with Diane Kannarr

Train-the-trainer concept is appropriate for the project.  Would recommend those who have experience in applying the skills being taught.

Leaders at the college conducting the training would send a positive signal to all involved.

Would look for:
1.    People with excellence in skill being taught (i.e., communication skills)
2.    Two trainers per campus
3.    Mix of trainers from all levels of the college

The key to success is “who” is doing the training.  They must be respected by all.  For a kick off, top leadership, including president, vice presidents, deans, and provosts, would be best.

Would recommend conducting the training face-to-face.  Online delivery is not as interactive.  Faculty and staff have a tendency to procrastinate doing or totally avoid assignments and interaction available online.

Would recommend moving trainers to other campuses to help build the college “community”

Possible topics include:
o    Active/Experiential/Activity-based Learning
o    Assessment
o    Learning Styles
o    Understanding your customers (students)
o    Building “Common Sense” in Students
o    Thinking
